Question: What is humour ? How does gyan deal with the issue of humour ? Is humour the best medicine ? How loud should we laugh, is it very unspiritual to laugh ? What is a smile and what is a laugh ? If things are as they should be, then why would we need to show emotion ? Thank you.

Thank you for your great question!
Dear soul,

Here is the definition by the “on-line” dictionary: “The quality of being amusing or comic, esp. as expressed in literature or speech.”

Now, perhaps we should ask: What is amusing?
and here is another set of words to define it: ” Causing laughter or providing entertainment.”

That definition takes me to the point of humor, perhaps… What is laughter?
Our dictionary will define laughter as: “The action or sound of laughing.”

and then, we will “research” the word “laughing” and find: “Make the spontaneous sounds and movements of the face and body that are the instinctive expressions of lively amusement and sometimes…Ridicule; scorn.”

Oh my… more words to “research” and know… Shall we look into the meaning of “spontaneous”? or what about “instinctive”? According to gyan, there is nothing like “instinct,” is humor made so we can scorn and ridicule? πŸ™‚

Those definitions could be very “amusing” after all.

So, what is humour? I know you know. However, what is amusing for you, may not be for someone else. Humour is cultural most of the time. Otherwise, everyone should get my little jokes every now and then in these writings; but it is not like that; even though i use this πŸ™‚ as a “pointer.” As a matter of fact, some may feel offended… 😦

Now you see the “spiritual issue with humour”? πŸ™‚
That is why I like BapDada’s humour. Safe and gentle. A rhyme here, a “raise your hands” there; and a “neutral” comparison over there… No one feels hurt, offended or ridicule.

That is humour. That is spiritual.
Have you seen BapDada laughing? I have seen Him with an “ear to ear smile.” (I shared that in one of my posts here) … but I haven’t heard Him laughing… Here is my “manmat:” To laugh is an emotion. To smile is the “natural” expression of contentment/fulfillment of the soul.

Hope that answered your interesting question! πŸ™‚

Best wishes!
