As we discover that different feelings and emotions arrive in what we call “Me,” then we could observe that those emotion “pass by” unless we trap them with us.
The “I” uses those emotions to build itself up.
Ralph had a “macho” idea of himself. He is “straight.” One time he was meeting with Paul at lunch time and for a brief moment, Ralph felt a weird attraction towards Paul.
That “feeling” got Ralph all worked up. He thought that this feeling was a homosexual symptom.
Ralph rejected that feeling and next time he was around Paul, the “macho” Ralph; felt all-nervous. Ralph’s uneasiness was perceived by Paul, who asked: “What is wrong with you?”
Because Ralph rejected that feeling, that “thing” got stronger. His moral values and religious beliefs, which he strongly believed in, made of Ralph a walking presence of guilt and fear. If Ralph would have accepted that feeling, and just go on with his life rather than make that “thing” a “big deal,” things could have worked out by itself.
What is the big deal if Ralph is homosexual?
Morality, beliefs, emotions towards that word.
The above is an example of how the “I” is not able to live in the moment, by accepting the sensations that come at that time. Acceptance means liberation. Rejection means to be trapped.
I recall my father was a “master” of living in the moment back in my childhood. When there was a heated discussion in the family, he may get upset (even sometimes while eating meals with the family together) however; 1 minute later it was as if nothing had happened. He could continue enjoying his meal while the rest of us… well… the grudge, the resentment was present during the rest of the meal.
The bigger the ego, the longer that resentment will last.
Did he do anything to get that way? It just happened. He did not do any practices at all.
He was able to tune in and out of situations as they appeared.
A child typically acts in the same way. A baby could cry his lungs out and then a sudden smile will come in his face. Just like that… 🙂
Have you observed ducks in a fight? Yes… they fight, they will do their tantrums, but then after a brief time, they will agitate their wings and then… they will go on with their lives, as if nothing had happened.
That is something to learn from animals. They will go from one state of being into another after “shaking themselves up.”
A sleepy dog will be ready to wag its tail and play after dancing the “shake, shake, shake” song. A cat may stretch out before going into a different activity.
A typical Human on the other hand, will carry the “memories” and make sure to “never forget them.”
To live in the past is a human disease.
As we become more in tune with our observation, we could perceive that different feelings may come which will give a presence for a moment. If the “I” traps that feeling because it is “too good,” or “too bad” (duality) then that sensation only strengthens that sense of “I.”
Is the solution not to feel anything then?
NO! There is no need for a solution, just observe how everything takes place. That is all.
As our sensibility to those energies surrounding us, increases; then we will be able to perceive that many times what we feel does not come from “us” but we could call that: The environment, the vibes, etc. In that realization it is a lot easier to let those unusual feelings go by.
The “I” could be like a wall. Everything that comes into that wall will stick in it. When the “wall” is not there as much, things just go by.
Everything changes in Life. The “I” is not an exception. Nevertheless because thoughts, ideas, memories are “static,” then we believe that things must be static as well.
Observe that every time we use our feelings to dramatize something in Life, that “thing” acquires a greater strength. It is that strength which will accelerate thoughts… Repetitive thoughts about something, someone or a particular situation.
If that “trauma” goes against our beliefs, our ideals, our morality, then imagine the strength that we have given to a Life experience.
To remain undivided in life means to stop analyzing, dividing things, separating things with our minds.
That oneness is very simple. Nevertheless, that “oneness” as just an idea becomes an intellectual theory without insight. That “ intellectual oneness” has been marketed as another belief, another idea, another philosophy, another religion.
For any “learned individual” all is about gaining information. “Information is power,” they may say. In the spiritual realm, “information” is meaningless to experience a different realm of consciousness.
Without a “different” consciousness; our ability to see and experience becomes trapped in the setting of the “average guy.”
That is the guy surviving on TV; movies; his “own” business, the “news,” books, Cds, the internet, the latest research, the talk by Mr. politician; the class by Dr. Ph.D. ; M.D or the priest … That is the guy who only absorbs and “regurgitates” information he heard/read someplace; that person is there to “take from the outside and repeat it,” that is the person who is truly sleeping even though moving and breathing in the world; that sort of consciousness is easy to manipulate and “brain wash” with the “latest” information.
None of the above is “bad.” However, a person totally immersed in the above characteristics does not have inside him the “guts” to undergo a total change in personality.
Because that person is “sleeping.” That person does not have the capacity to look at himself and the things he does everyday automatically, without noticing. That person has no developed inner observation.
Please see that this is not a religious belief.
That person could be a great critic or commentator of “outside” reality. That person could write or talk with great ease, by using logic and reasoning…. But that person does not have the capacity to look inside; where there is no fluency in language or “powerful” writing that could help.
If someone asks me what is the single most important experience to start transforming the self; my answer without a doubt is the feeling of being alone.
This is the time when we could face ourselves as we truly are without any of the distractions that we are accustomed to.
Alone. By yourself. No family, No friends. No religious group to support you. Nothing.
That could be a good setting to start, if we can handle it.
If we survive the experience, then we will recognize what ego is all about at different levels. That “self” looking for different ways to survive or to live through others; looking to please others just to be accepted. That ego/sense of self begging for some sort of company to be busy with; something or someone to posses, something to call “ours,” something to fill the void, the empty sensation of existing with nothing permanent, but worries about ceasing to exist.
Here is when the “I” will look for certainty, for security in the afterlife, with God; “His protection” with a religious group; with someone as long as that pain of inner emptiness is mitigated.
A hopeless day yells
for a bright sunny sky,
this loneliness is dry
turning my heaven into hell
After that hell; the light… then the discovery that no one is ever alone appears in the experience of your own company. Then, a bright sunny sky comes in your life despite the ups and downs of the weather of life.
Everything was just a bunch of thoughts, and those moments of feeling loneliness only brought the key to experience the inner self.
Many throw that key away as soon as possible. Few, will use that key to open the door into themselves.
That is where everything starts. 🙂
Thank you for your great question!
The answer of your questions lies in your state of consciousness, for according to that, is how you will experience and understand this answer.
Spirituality as the recognition and experience of our “true” nature and thus of God; is not related with “time” neither “space,” as we know it in the physical world.
In the physical world, space is the “place” where objects are located. That distance between objects is what give us the idea of time.
This is the most widely understood view of time and space. This is to be situated in the physical consciousness. For example, you see the Sun and then Venus. Those are objects. In between them, there is space and distance. If I am on Earth and I want to get to Venus, then I will speak about distance (miles) and Time (hours) to “get there.”
If you consciousness is “spiritual,” then time does not exist, for distance does not exist. Then we can see how time is a creation of thought. A creation of that thought which is stuck in the physical dimension and does not allow us to go beyond that. Here is where the “great thinkers” reside as well as the “scientific community” in general; they are stuck in the idea of “time” which is a thought.
At the subtle level of consciousness, “space” is equivalent to “movement.” Brahma Baba in his subtle body can be at any place in the world and be “seen,” there is no “physical” barriers in that state. There is no “time, nor distance,” neither “space” for his “body of light” is not really and object…but there is movement.
The understanding of the soul and the soul world will give us a different consciousness. The one which does not have time, space nor movement. Many will get stuck in the concept of “space,” for that I would ask them to take a look at the world of sub atomic particles and figure out if those particles are really “there” or not (quantum physics.) That is the world of “being and non-being,” the world of “possibilities,” the world where “space” as understood in the physical consciousness may exist or may not, depending on how you label or understand those sub atomic “things” to be.
Moreover, in Spirituality, we can refer about those concepts of “space and time,” to make a point, kind of being at the same level of “the majority” who are at the physical level of consciousness.
That is how we can say that “the space between thoughts, is known as silence,” or “Time is not your teacher, but BapDada is,” or “souls are at different positions in Parandham…” (Which carries the idea of space, distance and time) etc, etc…
Finally, comes the experience of being “time-less” that is thought -free. That means living in the present, the now. Neither fantasizing about the future nor bringing past memories in the now, that is the Spiritual state of an awaken soul…. but until then, there is time… plenty of time and space…to get there..:-)
Changes are arriving along my way
in the form of beautiful blue jays
can’t reject them , hide them or run away
they have the inviting aroma of Spring
ready to bloom in April’s wild swing
That mystery of sunrise, could fully awaken me
or send me to the land of unconscious dreams
there is no one who could give me a clue on this
it becomes an adventure after feeling that kiss
Changes lure me in the horizon of a new beginning
bringing emotions of what could have been
feeling eager to embrace my unique fate
as a hungry fish who can’t wait to bite the bait
Life plays the game with many hidden cards
but as long as I am the Ace of hearts
life is bound to protect me with many guards
for love and truth always have been, my only arts
