Freedom to BE

Growing up my “keyword” was freedom.
Freedom from the enemies. Freedom to Do what I want. Freedom to HAVE whatever I could get. Freedom to BE what I wanted to BE…
All of those “freedoms” are only circumstantial. They depend on the conditions, the settings. Whatever I DO, whatever I HAVE, whatever I want to BE is only another cage to fight for, to be attached to, to become fearful of losing… The cage is there and whenever there is a cage, freedom slips out of our hands…

Aware of these things, some religions paradoxically have misunderstood the meaning of freedom. For them to “attain” that is a matter of renouncing the world.
In DOING that, their cage becomes their own little world.
Freedom is not a matter of escaping from something and labeling that “ renunciation.”

To DO, to HAVE, to BE … are mental cages. Mind made definitions with borders which we will not trespass for safety, for comfort, for security.

True Freedom is in BEING, but this is not the mind BEING such as BEING a professional, BEING a father, BEING a guru… or BEING God. This BEING that I am talking about is without mind.
A child is that BEING and so a wild animal. FREE from traumas, FREE from hang ups, FREE from neurosis, FREE from the “future.”

A conditioned human being is always looking for security. If a man is in a relationship with someone, he may need a way to possess a woman so she doesn’t run away. That insecurity, that pettiness is called “love” by most. The “proof” is in the emotion of jealousy felt. However, it is certain that this man has built his own cage of attachment and neediness.

Then, his mind always going into extremes; will decide to go to the other extreme: “I will never be in love with anyone. I want to be Free.”
That decision is unbearably naïve. That man has built yet another cage for himself. He cannot be free.
Why?
Because it doesn’t matter whether he is in a relationship or not. Both states are cages when we move in the duality of the mind.
That is why it has been said: “Know thyself,” but I‘d like to clarify: “Know thy mind to be FREE from it.”
That is where freedom resides: Away from the duality created by the mind.

Our search for security will kill our freedom to BE. The need for security will create a cage and the fear to abandon it.

A mental “cage” could be like a hotel: A place to be for a short while before continuing in our journey. But, the one who feels secure, safe, at ease and would like by all means to maintain that state; that person will suffer when the time to change arrives.
Don’t we know that Life is change? Don’t we know that Life is completely uncertain?
Do we want to live in our own “little world” for the sake of being safe?
That will kill our growth as humans. Our development will be hindered.

Nothing is secure in life. That is the extraordinary thing about Life. It can turn around at any time and there is no one who could stop it… but yet, some want to fight against it even though “losing” every single battle against Life… While others would like to “hide” and control their environment to feel safe, even though there is no Life in their lives…. They are already death.
In both cases there is no Freedom.

Freedom is not in the extremes. It is neither in hiding nor in fighting, rejecting, conquering… to know Freedom we need to become AWARE of the works of our mind.

A seeker who does not understand his own mind, is only playing the game of self-deception: It is a game with plenty of beliefs and promises for great things in the “future,” but the price is not to enjoy the freedom of living fully in the “now.”
The “golden cage” may be a pretty cage for our minds. But … the best things in Life are always FREE…. Of charge?
No… FREE of mind.

Doing Nothing

“What do I have to DO to become a better human being?”
Nothing.
DOING does not get you there. Any doing will not allow you to see what you ARE now. Without acknowledging “now” there is only meaningless DOING.
Doing “nothing” is not as easy as we may think, when we have been conditioned to DO something.

Are you saying that I should become lazy then?

Observe how your mind is only capable of going through the extremes. If you cannot DO things, then you go to the other extreme, laziness.
That is how the mind works.
For example, if we talk about last year’s weather temperature, your mind will more likely remember 2 states: Cold or Hot. Nothing in between.

Anytime we go to extremes, we are running away from what is, from what we ARE.
You are overeating, then DO fasting.
You are a slob, couch potato; then DO exhaust yourself through exercises to lose weight.
You are a lusty, a DO sex human being; then DO practice celibacy.
You are DOING sins, then become a  DOING saint.
See the game? That is the game of the mind. It is about running away from what we ARE, going from one extreme to the other searching for “happiness.”

A mind lost in that duality, divides itself into the “good guy” and the “bad guy.” That is the game of our human morality. It is about extremes, the Do’s and the Do nots.

That is why any DOING is incomplete, for NOT DOING will need to be experienced as well. That is the complete experience. Life is both, contradictory, paradoxical… That is any belief system which only chooses one side of the experience and label that “good” is truly not reflecting what Life is.
Life is like a pendulum. Any extreme we choose to go, is only the predecessor of the opposite extreme.

Our minds are taught to choose one extreme and avoid the other, even though the other extreme will be experienced.
That is how guilt appears, forgiveness arises, the sinner mentality creates a divided neurotic personality.

“But… what is the way out?”
Obviously is not in DOING.
AWARENESS is the key. To be AWAKE.

When you are awake, there is observation of that which we call “I.” The mind is the first candidate for that observation. Ego resides in that mind/body identification.
AWARENESS is not DOING, it is not a “practice.”

“Why do I need to observe?”
Because you may need to understand what is going on and not make a judgment value based on a morality which only knows about extremes, duality.

Be aware of thinking. Be aware of feeling. Be aware on how those 2 things start and finish, become conscious on how the “external” influences the internal and also the opposite… Become aware that the internal is the external, and the external… the internal.
Become aware that there is a moment when there are no thoughts, when the “I” is not… Do not verbalize it, do not put it in words, for otherwise that experience will be tinted with duality and any word you use to express it, will be far from “what is.”

Want to explain what is the experience of silence?
Say it! Whatever you say, it will be far from “what is.”
Perhaps, “lack of noise”? you have gone to the extreme in your explanation and you haven’t said anything of value for someone else  who does not have the experience, to know silence.

That is the value of words. That is why the “truth,”  BEING cannot be expressed in words.

Therefore, anything you say will not help you become a “better” human being, neither anything you DO… what matters is what you ARE and what you ARE is expressed in how you FEEL.
You are not rich or poor, handsome or ugly, educated or non-educated… those are only extreme, labels created by a mind who is not aware of the middle, the way out of the swinging of that pendulum of the mind.
That middle has the potential to be either extreme, and to BE there, in the middle… is to BE out of the duality of the mind.

That is the place to BE when you ARE.
How do you get there?
You just feel it. Feel to Be better. 🙂

The Rainbow of experiences in Life

Slide1

In Life there are many experiences. Those experiences run through all the different “shades of colors” that we could imagine. To be experienced in Life means to have gone through all of them. It is through that experience how insight develops. All of those colors are “good” for to experience one means to naturally go into another.

Any person that we see at this point, is representing a particular color at this time. He may think that “his” color is the “truth,” but that color will need to change to keep on experiencing Life.

“Look at Robert… what a humble guy, he is!”
Believe me, he was a proud individual at one point in time through his different experiences in Life OR he will be a proud, ego centered guy.

That is what I mean when I say “shades of colors in Life.”

Religious minded people may not use the terms “shades of colors.” They will use: “Good and Bad.”
What is in between that “Good and Bad”?
“Normal.” The mob.
The ones who are neither saints nor sinners.
That labeling has done so much harm in our society for centuries.

Life = Shades of colors to experience, that is all.
If we understood the above analogy, we could see clearly that consciousness will change by itself as the shades of colors change through experiencing Life.
No one could be truly “good” without having experienced being “bad.”
Do we see that?
That is how a “saint” will look at anyone knowing that a particular shade of color at a particular time is not the “rainbow” of a person, but to appreciate the rainbow means to be able to perceives its capacity to display all colors.
That is the beauty of the rainbow.
On the other hand, for most people: “Red is good, Indigo is bad. Blue is immoral. Yellow is saintly.”

Without that experience, all we have left is to follow a particular “moral code” to make us believe that we are “being good.”
That is the dissonance between “being” and “doing.”
That is how external actions or protocols will trap the consciousness of an individual.
“If I don’t do these things, my peers/family/society/love ones/God/ etc./ will think low of me.”
That is when consciousness is secluded to live under a box, a cubicle with no windows or doors for the sake of “acting good.”

Experiences are not “good or bad.” Just different shades, different colors to feed our consciousness with material to be assimilated, processed and then changed into a new outlook in Life.

Anything that happens, any experience is meant to be “raw material” for further processing.
Knowing all of the above, how is it possible to believe that a method, a religious path or a philosophy or someone could change the consciousness of an individual?

But… a saint came up out of this religious path!
Wrong.
The particular experience of being in a particular religious path was the catalyst to bring the accumulated raw material from many life times, into fruition, but that does not mean that everyone is already at the same level of experiences or that everyone must do the same as this “saint” to become a “saint.” It does not mean that this particular religious path or method is “the method” for the “whole world.”

It does not work that way, because every single individual is living a particular “shade of color” which will need to transform by itself and not by the compulsion of following a method.

To go deeply into the above, not as a mental exercise or as an intellectual debate but by looking at our own life experiences, means to liberate ourselves from the cage of searching for a savior or “salvation.”

There is none. It was never needed.

That is why, Ananda only repeats endlessly: Enjoy your current experience.
It will change, but if you learn to enjoy them… then you will be enjoying Life as “it is” and that in itself is the catalyst for greater amplitude of mind, amplitude of consciousness; for enjoyment is about appreciation and as mentioned before, the way to expand our consciousness is through appreciation of the experiences brought to us by Life itself.

See the rainbow of every individual, not just the color being presented at one time. It is in that way how our lives could be a rainbow to be appreciated by the ones who are only aware of being just a color in Life.

Consciousness

consciousness

The awareness of being is consciousness.
That awareness could change according to the perception of ourselves, what we believe to “be.”

For instance, if that awareness is of just the body; then our consciousness will dictate that in fact, we are the body. Then, our life will shift into this consciousness. A haircut becomes more important than feeling at peace. A dress becomes the status of who we “are” in life. A car becomes the image of success, which is related with “I” the one who possesses it, the one who has arrived to that place of power. That “I” has a form, a picture, a label.

In that consciousness, everything is fleeting: Beauty, health, wealth, power and that is the cause of our continuous struggle to maintain something which will change in time.

That causes suffering.
Our state of consciousness will not allow us to see something different.

Here is when we could understand religious ideas that portray the body as being “bad,” “sinful,” and to get away from it as much as possible to become “spiritual.” A belief system cannot do this fictitious separation. Only a greater consciousness can, and in that greater consciousness there is no separation, there is no denial of the body, but embracing it as part of everything.

Avyakt7 feels that the word “consciousness” expresses better our spiritual side. There are other words as well to express the same, such as spirit, soul, godly nature, etc. However, those words come already attached with a mental image, a definition which will not allow us to experience what is; that is to discover beyond definitions, images, beliefs and traditions.

That word “consciousness” could be exchanged with the word awareness.
When that awareness shifts from being only in the physical world, to the inner world, is when our consciousness will shift into something different.
Unless that has occurred, we will only live in the world of change, the world of forms, the world of beginning and end.

In the quest for consciousness, we could observe the physical world, we could observe our breathing; that is become aware of it, we could even hear our own heartbeats; this expresses another level of physical awareness.

When the observer, the one experiencing consciousness observes that in itself, is when a different level of consciousness has begun.

At this level we are in touch for the first time with what “is.”
It is at this point where consciousness could know other perspectives and perhaps realize that the answer of all of our metaphysical or existential related questions were there, in that experience.

Someone who is trapped in just the physical consciousness, will be seeking for reassurance. That person will be interested in “life insurance” for a life after his life time, that person will be interested in preserving his own life as much as possible in his “youth.” That person will be interested in gaining favors from the “higher ups” of Heaven; for in that person’s consciousness, the afterlife is a reflection of the physical world: You get something, keep it as much as possible and then fight to keep it or find someone with power to help you keep those things.

That is what the afterlife looks like for someone in that consciousness. Some religions will reflect that in their ideologies.

Once our “field of vision” is amplified due to greater awareness, we could understand someone coming from a different angle, a different consciousness, a different awareness; but this is not reciprocal.

That has been one of the major issues with all the avatars that humanity has had. Their explanations about “their reality” couldn’t be understood, that is how spiritual teachings could become easily misunderstood.

Greater awareness means to understand that “black or white” teachings merely reflect a state of consciousness. They cannot be the “absolute truth,” for everything that we perceive is according to our state of consciousness. With greater consciousness, we will be able to see the different shades of color in between the “black or white” extremes. This is the rainbow of colors needed in our lives.

Questions for June 6th 2013- Topics: Power, Love and Entropy

Brother, When i say i am a powerful being what i really mean from this? Our nature is of stillness and of movement, 2 extremes. Should we focus on break(to get stillness) or should we learn to drive (to get moving)?

Dear soul,
Thank you for your great question!
To be “powerful” simply means to be able to be constantly stable in one stage at this time. We fluctuate because our consciousness fluctuates. For some that stage to be obtained is called “soul consciousness,” for me it is “beyond thoughts and duality.”

Your mind is caught up in duality when you see 2 different things such as movement and stillness and having to choose one of them. Embrace all. You are both. If you deny one to choose the other, you will suffer for sure. “The truth is a paradox” has been said, not that it is logic.

Best wishes!

dear brother,if girl or boy face the one side love situation what should he or she should do???As who is in love sending thoughts and definitely thoughts will come to the other person which will create disturbance. How one can protect him/her self from this kind of situation where he/she does not want to involve.I asked question because i have seen so many youth who dis troy their career due to other person and sometimes lose their valuable life for that person who has no care for their emotions. In this situation other person is also not responsible as he/she cant feel same for other person?so who is responsible. How spritual knowledge can stop youth to take such a big step like sucide for love ones?

Dear soul,
Thank you for your great question.
Let us say that person A is in “love” with person B.
Person B does not reciprocate that love, is not interested in person A as a “lover.”
Person A will be thinking about person B all the time. Sending thoughts towards that person.

Those thoughts will be in relation on how person A was treated by person B.
If person B was very harsh towards person A and closed all doors, hurting the feelings of person A; then you can imagine the quality of thoughts that will come as a return in person B’s way.

One of the things that we need to learn is to treat everyone with respect. We know that this a karmic account (so no one is responsible,) but knowing that does nothing to solve the issue. Therefore, let us be aware of the feelings of another human being who feels something for us, even though we do not wish to be engaged in such relationship.

The other thing that we should know is that as long as we are dependent on someone for our happiness, we will fluctuate. That fluctuation could be a broken a heart for some or to commit suicide for others.

To learn to let go, is more than lyrics from a song; it is truly to wish the best to another being and let that be the extent of your love for that person.

When you open your hands and let a dove fly free from your “protection;” you can enjoy its flight with good wishes from the heart. A dove needs to fly.
If it is in the Drama, that bird will come back to you by itself; otherwise, it is free to fly. You are Ok with both. That is love.
If youth could learn that, then their teacher was a “good one.”
Sometimes, that teacher is life itself.

Best wishes!

HELLO and omshanti dear brother I’m in gyan since one year. Baba said that I come onto this earth only when all other souls become tamo pradhan. my question is if every soul has to go through sato pradhan, sato, rajo, tamo, tamo pradhan (it is known that souls degrade as they take births but baba said a child is sato pradhan, adoloscent is rajo &adult is in tamo stage in each birth too) then the one birth soul should reach 25 years of age for becoming tamo pradhan only then Baba started coming which means that soul has already hit 101 years of age if sangam is still continuing the age of that soul continues to be indefinite how can this be possible? Does it mean we are only 4-5 years away from world transformation?

Dear soul,

Thank you for your question! And welcome to the BK club!
Take a look at a day and how it transforms into the night. This will explain to you a mini cycle of sato, rajo and tamo.

Then, observe how the 4 seasons change in a year. That will teach you a bigger cycle of sato, rajo and tamo.

Then, take a look at the cycle of time; then that will teach you a even greater cycle of sato, rajo and tamo. (Entropy)

Now, take a look at human beings and how their lives fit in all of those cycles.

Please just take a look at this for now, study that and you will learn the answer to your won question.

Unfortunately, I do not follow how “entropy” is related with being 4-5 years away from world transformation; when the world is always transforming.

Best wishes!
