Beliefs: Just mental entertainment
“…I want to understand why there is no permanent liberation from cycle of birth and death. Because if we see the scriptures, it is said that ultimate goal of human life is liberation from cycle of birth and death. But [my guru] says it is not so. But many enlightened persons like Mahavir Swami and others have taught about this goal. Please give your understanding on this.”
Someone contacted me with this question…
Since that question could be used for the “common good,” Avyakt7 has decided to answer it… 🙂
As mentioned many times before, Avyakt7 is not interested in becoming a “guru” or an expert “enlightened being” in the field of spirituality…and certainly Avyakt7 will not give personal advice.
Friend, your question is full of beliefs… also known as “entertainment.”
However, I understand that your mind wants a “clear cut” answer a:” This is right. That is wrong.”
My answer is a paradoxical one as that reflects life itself.
Both gurus are correct in their opposite views. Because of that, both are incorrect at the same time. 🙂
How about that?
That should make your mind happy! 🙂
Friend, your question is something like this:
“Is Ironman more powerful than Spiderman? Batman says “yes.” Superman says “No.” However, the “Amazing Spiderman comic book #9 from 1964” mentions “there is no human being more powerful than a machine.”
From that I can easily assume that Ironman is more powerful, for he is also a machine.”
What is your understanding on this? 🙂
Nowadays, Avyakt7 entertains his mind by watching the 1966 series of “your friendly neighborhood Spiderman” – In color (Big deal back then) whenever time allows it.
I can see that you like to entertain your mind with religious beliefs.
Basically, it is the same thing. The difference is that I know that whatever is going in the screen is entertainment. You may not know that all of those beliefs in the screen of your mind, are just entertainment.
There is no goal. Enjoy the experience of life.
Because I said “enjoy life” you could logically say that to “enjoy life is my goal.” You could say that you arrived to this answer by following rigorous logic, therefore your assumption must be true… 🙂
I’d say: “ Yes and No.” 😉
Friend, If your goal is to become like “Superman” or to follow him, you will be helpless around Kryptonite.
If your goal is to be like Batman or to follow him, you may have a darker side in you…
If your goal is to be like Santa Claus, you may not get a gift… etc.
That is why, Avyakt7 says “become nothing” so you free yourself from all of that.
If you want to define yourself or to enjoy a different consciousness based on mental “entertainment,” you will miss the adventure of discovering your own potential.
Perhaps the one that you are truly looking to be…
Sincerely all the best to you! 🙂
Freeing yourself from yourself
This idea of self is truly detrimental once we believe in it. One thing is to relate with this “self” label as when “I” greet someone: “Hello John, how are you doing?” or when in my daily speech “I” need to use the words “I” and “my.”
A different thing is to believe that those words that we use to communicate are indeed “real.”
Note that Avyakt7 is not saying that the idea of “self” is “bad,” our “worst enemy,” or that we need to have “distaste of that idea.” That is childish.
Avyakt7 is using the word “detrimental” not as judgment but as a way to communicate and convey a close but not accurate meaning to Avyakt7’s inner discovery.
“Detrimental” is used as an obstacle, an obstruction to perceive something else.
As mentioned before, please do not take that as the “truth,” for it cannot be communicated with words.
Have you ever taken a stroll in a park or the bay early in the morning with a smiling face? 🙂
Do you know where that smile came from, without a particular reason to smile?
That is when YOU are not there. Notice that the harmonious perception of what is already there in Nature, without any thinking or additional ideas will bring that magic.
To be alive in appreciation means not to think, to have a quiet mind. Silence. Stillness. Emptiness.
Is thinking “bad”? Nope. Thinking has its own place. Thinking is not supposed to be an inner voice in our heads. Thinking is not supposed to bring that separation of the “thinker” and everything else. Unless we believe it.
There is no problem which is truly a problem when we realize that everything is temporary.
That is why that perception of “I” is a mental disease. That “I” needs to go away with his/her ideas. That “I” needs to go away with his/her expectations and illusions.
That “I” must go away… but through thinking, that “I” remains the “same.”
It wants to survive forever… 🙂
That is why any ideas about the afterlife are just ways for that “I” to remain. Those ideas will bring certainty through another thought, through another idea, another belief.
Living is not thinking about the “future” and what could happen next. We live “now.” As it is “now” when we are aware of it.
That is why it is important to be aware of our mind and its games. That is why, it is important to awaken to that “reality.”
God cannot help on this. To clear our minds from that on going “mental garbage” is our own task.
The outcome of that inner cleansing is a frank smile.
Observe your neighbor’s cat lazily stretching in the morning, say hello to “top cat.” Observe the birds chirping their tunes, appreciate that music with your awareness… Move slowly into the day by looking at the trees and perceiving their aroma, notice the sun caressing your skin and the wind massaging your face… as long as there is no YOU in it, “YOU” will appreciate that moment without words. Otherwise, it is just an empty thought.
That is the mystery of being and non-being.
The outside of the inside
“As it is inside, it is outside.”
We could get lost in that phrase intellectually or just mechanically repeat it without knowing its “real” meaning through observation of the self.
Using the intellectual abilities of the mind, we could infer that there is no difference between the outside and the inside after considering the phrase. It is the same. Thus, the division between “outer” and “inner” is fictitious.
This is the conclusion of a logical, reasonable mind; what is typically called an “intelligent” mind. Nevertheless; the true meaning of the phrase “as it is inside, it is outside,” will not be known. Without experience of this phrase at a level beyond the mind, there will be only information.
The “job” of a spiritual person sooner or later will be to “get out “ of the mind. That is to be free from the mind. Not to think in intellectual terms anymore, in duality. Here is where “not thinking,” can only be understood by those who have experienced being out of the rational mind. For the rest, “not thinking” means blindly following someone.
To “get out of the mind” is not something that happens through force, through will power. It happens through awareness.
Wisdom does not reside in thinking. Knowing is not thinking and this knowing is not related with finding out the square root of 666; but something even greater: To know how to live life without stress, with harmony; in balance. This is the first and ultimate knowledge.
To experience ourselves without the hindrance of the mind is to liberate ourselves of a heavy weight.
That lightness appears only when the thoughts related with our own “movie mind” ceases to play.
The easiest way to experience this state is to become lighter of any unnecessary responsibilities, to be able to enjoy a whole day by yourself without a thing to do. Nothing to do. Nothing to take care of. Can you afford that? 🙂
When there is nothing to think about, a walk in the park is refreshing. Then, we could enjoy the scenery and being part of it. While walking, we could be observing different faces, attitudes and behaviors from people, without taking that in as: “Why that person did not say hello to me?” Why that person did not smile back at me?” The mind is not there to take thoughts into the “me” “center of the universe;” thus the feeling of lightness appears and then that episode of liberation from the internal movie of the mind will be cherished… only if we realize that magical moment of liberation, that is; if we are aware. Awake.
